We are a two-form entry junior school catering for children between the ages of 7 and 11. We have eight classes in the school, usually with 30 children in a class, which means that in total we have around 240 children in the school. This means we are large enough to offer a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular activities, whilst being small enough to get to know each child really well as an individual. We like to feel we have a family feel in the school.
We are fortunate indeed to have an extremely settled school community. Staff turnover is very low, because people love working here; and we have virtually no in-year movement in or out of the school. Apart from children leaving at the end of Year 6 or joining at the start of Year 3, we have had only one child leave the school (due to a family move out of area) and one child join the school in the last two years. This means that we get to know the children really well during their four-year journey through the school, allowing us to prepare them well for the move to secondary school at the end of their time here.
Most of our children join us in Year 3 from our partner infant school, but we usually have one or two join us in Year 3 from other schools, for instance following a family move into the area. This allows us to undergo really good transition work with the infant school, and to ensure the children are well-prepared when they start with us.
We are fortunate to have good facilities in the school, including an extensive outdoor space that incorporates our playground, an adventure playground, a large field and a wildlife area and pond.
