Journalists use the 5Ws like a checklist to make sure they have included all of the facts needed to produce an accurate report. The introductory paragraph usually includes all of them, in short sentences so the reader gets an idea what the article will be about. More detail of each will be included in the main body of text, which follows after the introduction.
The 5Ws are 5 question words: WHO? WHAT? WHERE? WHEN? WHY?
