Willow Bank Junior School

Mrs Cox's Maths Group

Thursday 3rd December

This week we will be practising measuring - we will send home a worksheet with some shapes for you to measure to continue practising accurate measurement in centimetres.

Thursday 26th November

Homework for this week is to carry on with your estimating and measuring work - please can you find five items in your house that you can measure. They can be big or small (table, bed, desk, book, etc) but make sure you have a tape measure long enough to manage the measuring first!

Start by estimating the length or width (think about the length of the 30 cm rulers we were using and try and compare it with that) and then measure it. How close were you?

Record your results on paper.

Homework for this week is to use the sheet above to practise your column addition and carrying. The answer sheet is attached too but please don't be tempted to look at it first! Have a go and then check your answers. You can complete your homework on a separate piece of paper if you can't print this out. Good luck and show us what you can do! (Don't forget to check your answers!)

If the addition is a little too tricky right now, then there's a number bonds to 20 sheet to have a go at instead - again don't look at the answers first! Have a go and then check your answers.

Thursday 5th November

Next week is Maths Week England. We have signed  up to play in the Maths week battle on Times Tables Rock Stars - Rock Out.

It begins at 7:30am on Monday 9th November and finishes 7:30 pm Saturday 14th November.

Any correct answers (on any game mode) given between 7:30am and 7:30pm each day will count towards your class's points.

The points from each class are added up and divided by the number of pupils in the class who play.

Example – the class scores 4000 in total and 25 pupils play. The class score will be 4000 ÷ 25 = 160.

The class with the highest average is the winner.

There can be the winning class in the school or in the whole of England.
