Homework
Expectations for Year 3 (2025-26)
Homework is set to reinforce and practise the learning in school.
Reading
CHECKED FRIDAY | Reading is the most important skill to support your child with. Even the most able readers need to rehearse their reading aloud skills in order to demonstrate good levels of fluency, accuracy and comprehension.
A link to accelerated reader is below. | Please listen to them read aloud at least four times weekly and date and sign their blue reading record book.
Please add any comments which you think might be helpful. Children must bring their book in on Friday.

Maths
CHECKED FRIDAY | Learning times tables are key to being able to access so much in maths. Times tables via Times Tables Rock Stars is set as ongoing weekly maths homework, as it encourages children to practise in a fun way whilst increasing their mental speed and accuracy.
A link to Times Tables Rock Stars is below. | TTRS is checked regularly by Mrs Burns and Mrs Cowen. Children may also wish to practise on paper or verbally.
Times tables are tested every week in school. Children have to achieve 20/20 three times before being moved onto the next times table. |
Spelling
CHECKED MONDAY | Children are grouped according to their spelling strength and are set a weekly spelling quiz on Purple Mash. A copy of the word list will also be in their orange spelling book. Spellings rules are taught in class and then practised and tested at home.
A link to Purple Mash is below. All of the children's passwords are in their orange spelling book. | Spellings are set Monday to Monday – please ensure your child practises during that time in their orange book. Spellings from the previous week will be tested every Monday.
They will also have opportunities to practise their spellings in class. Spare spellings (if lost or not stuck in) are available from Mrs Burns and Mrs Cowen. |
English
CHECKED MONDAY | English homework will be given to the children every week. It will be a written activity linked to their English unit OR some handwriting practise which they will complete in a handwriting home book. They write ONE line of each letter/group of letters.
| Unless it is a handwriting task, the children will need to bring their orange book in on Monday to be checked. |
